Emergency Lockout Locksmith Greenacres

Emergency Lockout Locksmith Greenacres

This page is for anyone in Greenacres who is standing outside a locked house, a locked car, or a locked storefront and needs a licensed locksmith on the way now. PRO Locksmith is a family-owned mobile locksmith, licensed and insured, and we have been handling lockouts across Palm Beach County since 2016. Our 24-hour emergency line is (954) 406-8266. Call it, tell us where you are and what kind of lock you are looking at, and we dispatch the nearest technician with a firm price you hear before anyone leaves. Below is what to expect, what it costs, and how lockouts tend to happen in a city built as densely as this one.

The first three things to do when you are locked out

Before you call anyone, take a breath and run a short checklist. Most people skip it and then feel silly when they find the spare on the lanai.

  • Check every door and window once. In Greenacres townhome and villa communities, the sliding door to the patio is the door most often left unlatched. Check it before you assume the house is sealed.
  • Think about who else has a key. A neighbor, a grown child, a property manager for a condo, the office at a 55-plus community. A short wait for a key beats any locksmith bill.
  • Get somewhere safe and lit. If you are in a parking lot on Lake Worth Road at midnight, walk to a lit storefront or sit in a friend’s car before you start making calls.

If none of that solves it, call (954) 406-8266. Have the address or the nearest cross street ready, and if it is a car, the year, make and model. That is all we need to quote the job.

House lockouts in Greenacres

Greenacres is about six square miles with roughly 44,000 people, which makes it one of the denser cities in central Palm Beach County. Most of the housing stock is single-family ranches from the late 1970s and 1980s, townhomes and villas from the 1980s and 1990s, and condos clustered along Jog Road and Forest Hill Boulevard. That mix shapes the lockouts we see.

On the older ranches in the Original Section, the neighborhoods platted just west of Military Trail, the front door usually has a deadbolt that was added years after the house was built and a knob that has been locking people out since the Carter administration. On the townhomes, the common failure is a slam-lock knob on a door that closes itself. On condos, it is often a key that broke off in a worn cylinder because the same key has been turning that lock for thirty years.

We open all of them without damage in the large majority of cases. Picking, bypass tools, and decoding a lock are the normal route; drilling is the last resort and we tell you before we do it, because a drilled lock has to be replaced. A house lockout runs $95 to $445, quoted upfront before work starts, with the number depending on the lock type and whether it is a simple knob or a high-security cylinder. Once you are inside, we can rekey or replace on the spot so the same problem does not repeat. Our house lockout page walks through the process step by step.

Car lockouts along Lake Worth Road and Jog Road

The commercial spine of Greenacres runs along Lake Worth Road, Forest Hill Boulevard, Tenth Avenue North and Jog Road, and that is where the car lockouts happen: grocery store lots, the pharmacy, the gas station, the restaurant parking behind a strip plaza. The keys are on the seat, or the fob is in a gym bag in the trunk, or a toddler hit the lock button from the car seat.

We open cars with the proper tools for the vehicle. Older Toyotas, Hondas and Fords with mechanical locks are opened with a wedge and a long-reach tool or by picking the door cylinder. Newer vehicles with deadlocking or laminated glass require a different approach, and we carry what is needed for BMW, Mercedes, Kia, Hyundai and the domestic pickups that fill every driveway in Greenacres. A car lockout is $95 to $345, quoted upfront before work starts.

If the key is not just locked inside but actually lost, that is a different job. We cut and program replacement keys and fobs in the truck for most makes, starting at $110, and we can do it right in the parking lot rather than having the car towed to a dealer. The car lockout page and the car key replacement and programming page cover both situations.

Business lockouts and after-hours callouts

Greenacres has a lot of small businesses in a small footprint: the plazas along Jog Road, the medical and professional offices near Forest Hill Boulevard, the shops in Greenacres Plaza and Woodlake Plaza. A business lockout is usually one of three things. The only manager with a key is sick and the opening shift is standing outside. A key broke in an aluminum storefront door. An employee who was let go still has the key and the owner wants the lock changed tonight, not next week.

We handle all three. Storefront doors with mortise cylinders, panic bars, and narrow-stile hardware are a different animal from a house door, and we carry the cylinders, cams and Von Duprin and Detex compatible parts to get a commercial door working again on the same visit. A business lockout is $95 to $445, quoted upfront before work starts, and a rekey afterward is $40 to $95 per lock. If you want the whole building put on a master key so this stops happening, we set that up too. See business lockout for the specifics.

Broken keys, lost keys, and keys that just stopped working

Not every lockout is a slammed door. A good share of the emergency calls we get in Greenacres are about keys that failed.

Key snapped off in the lock

Brass keys fatigue. After enough years the key cracks at the shoulder and the blade stays in the cylinder. Do not try to pull it with pliers or superglue; you will push it deeper or glue the lock shut. We extract the broken piece with proper extractor tools, then cut a new key from the fragment or from the lock itself. Our broken key extraction service is a common overnight call.

Lost all keys to the house

If the only key is gone, we open the door, then rekey every exterior lock so the lost key is useless if it turns up in the wrong hands. That is the right order: get you in, then make sure nobody else can.

Lost all keys to the car

Modern cars need a key that is cut to the lock and programmed to the immobilizer. Without any existing key, we generate one from the vehicle’s key code or by reading the lock, then program it on site. This is the job dealers say takes days; we do it in the driveway.

The key works but the lock does not

Humidity, sand, and years of turning wear a cylinder until the pins bind. A key that has to be jiggled is a key that will eventually not turn at all, usually when you are late. We service or replace the cylinder before it becomes a lockout, if you call before it does.

Break-in repairs the same day

When a door has been forced, the lock is rarely the only thing broken. The strike plate is usually torn out of the jamb, the jamb itself is split, and sometimes the door slab is cracked around the bolt. We treat this as an emergency because a house or shop that cannot be secured is not a place anyone wants to sleep or leave inventory in.

The typical repair visit goes like this. We assess the door and frame. We install a new deadbolt or replace the damaged one, using a heavy-duty strike plate with 3-inch screws into the framing. We repair or reinforce the split jamb so the new strike has something to hold onto. We rekey every other lock in the building in case keys were taken. If the door is beyond repair, we secure the opening and tell you plainly that a new door is needed so you can plan it.

Schlage, Kwikset and Yale residential deadbolts, and Medeco or Mul-T-Lock high-security cylinders for owners who want a lock that resists picking and bumping, are all carried on the truck. Our deadbolt install and repair page shows what those options look like.

Townhomes, villas and 55-plus communities

A large share of Greenacres lives in attached housing. River Bridge, on the south side of Forest Hill Boulevard just west of Jog Road, is more than 1,100 homes across nineteen sub-associations with single-family homes, villas, townhomes and condos behind three staffed gates. The 55-plus communities near Lake Worth Road and Jog Road, such as Lucerne Homes East, Buttonwood, Park Pointe and The Rainbows, were built mostly between 1979 and the mid-1980s, and many of them still have the original locks on the original doors.

Lockouts in these communities have a few quirks. Gated entries mean you need to tell the guardhouse a locksmith is coming, or meet us at the gate. Condo associations sometimes have rules about which locks are allowed on the exterior door so the building keeps a uniform look, and we ask before we install anything that would break those rules. And in the 55-plus communities, we are often opening a door for a neighbor or an adult child who is worried about someone inside, so we move carefully and we do not damage the door.

We also see a lot of mailbox and cluster box lockouts in these communities, where the tenant has moved out and taken the mailbox key. That is a quick cylinder swap, and we carry the common sizes. Bring proof that the unit is yours and we handle the rest.

What to have ready when you call

The call goes faster, and the quote is more accurate, when you can answer a few questions. None of them are hard.

  • The exact location. A street address, or for a parking lot, the plaza name and the store you are in front of. “Jog Road near Lake Worth Road” covers a lot of asphalt.
  • Proof you belong there. We will ask for ID that matches the address, or the registration for the car, before we open anything. If your wallet is locked inside, tell us and we will sort it out once the door is open. A locksmith who does not ask is a locksmith who would open your door for anyone.
  • What the lock looks like. A photo texted to us of the door hardware, or the make and model of the car, lets us bring the right tools and quote the right number.
  • Gate or guardhouse details. In River Bridge or any gated community, let the gate know a locksmith is expected, or plan to meet us there.
  • Whether anyone is inside. A child or an elderly parent locked in changes how we prioritize the call. Tell us.

What an emergency lockout actually costs

People are wary of emergency locksmiths for a good reason: the bait-and-switch, where a low price is quoted on the phone and a much higher one shows up on the invoice. We do not work that way. Here is exactly how pricing works with us.

  • The service call and diagnostic is $55.
  • A car lockout is $95 to $345. A house lockout or business lockout is $95 to $445. Where you land in the range depends on the lock, not the hour.
  • Rekeying is $40 to $95 per lock. A lock change is $65 to $345 depending on the hardware.
  • A car key made starts at $110, with the exact price set by the make, model and fob type.
  • Every one of those numbers is quoted upfront before work starts. You approve the price, then we begin. If we find something on site that changes the job, we stop and re-quote before continuing.

The full list is on our pricing page. If a number you hear from anyone, including us, does not match it, ask why.

How to avoid the next lockout

Once you are back inside, a few cheap steps make a repeat far less likely.

  • Rekey to one key. If the front door, side door and garage entry all take different keys, you carry three keys and lose one. One key for the whole house is a $40 to $95 per lock job.
  • Swap the auto-locking knob for a passage knob. A door that locks itself behind you is the number one cause of house lockouts. Put the security in the deadbolt, which you have to turn deliberately.
  • Add a keypad deadbolt. A code cannot be left on the kitchen counter. For a townhome with kids coming and going, or a 55-plus villa where a caregiver visits, a keypad lock from Schlage, Kwikset or Yale ends the spare-key problem.
  • Keep one spare with someone reliable, not under the mat and not in the fake rock. Everybody knows about the fake rock.
  • Replace the key before it breaks. A key with a visible crack at the shoulder is on borrowed time. A duplicate cut from a good original costs almost nothing compared to an extraction call.

Where We Work in Greenacres

Greenacres was founded in 1923 by Lawrence Carter Swain, incorporated in 1926 as Greenacres City, and has been a Tree City USA since 1992. It runs from Military Trail on the east to roughly the Florida Turnpike on the west, with Okeeheelee Park’s 1,700 acres just beyond the city limits. We cover all of it, and we dispatch the nearest technician regardless of which side of Jog Road you are on.

That includes the Original Section and the older streets west of Military Trail, the ranch neighborhoods along Tenth Avenue North and Swain Boulevard, and the subdivisions off Forest Hill Boulevard including River Bridge, Nautica Isles and the gated homes in Magnolia Bay. Along Lake Worth Road and Jog Road we serve the 55-plus communities of Lucerne Homes East, Buttonwood, Park Pointe and The Rainbows, plus Pine Ridge, Sherwood Lakes and the Villages of Woodlake. South toward the Lake Worth Road corridor, we regularly work in the townhome and villa communities near Cresthaven Boulevard and the estate lots in Dillman Farms.

Commercial calls take us to the plazas along Jog Road and Forest Hill Boulevard, Greenacres Plaza and Woodlake Plaza, and the offices and clinics that cluster near the Community Center and Samuel J. Ferreri Community Park. If you are near Ira Van Bullock Park, Greenacres Freedom Park, or anywhere in the 33413, 33415, 33463 and 33467 zip codes, you are inside our regular Greenacres route.
